Details: The Swiss government appointed Jacques Gerber, 51, Minister of Health and Economics of the French-speaking canton of Jura in northwestern Switzerland, to the post of delegate for Ukraine.
Gerber will take office on 1 January 2025, completing nine years of work in the cantonal government of Jura.
According to Swiss Federal Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis, Gerber is the best person to coordinate assistance to Ukraine.
The delegate for Ukraine will be in charge of overseeing all Swiss government aid projects now carried out by the State Secretariats for Foreign Affairs and Economic Affairs.
With the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the Swiss government provided approximately 3.7 billion Swiss francs (approx. €4 billion) to the Ukrainian population affected by the war, both in Ukraine and as refugees in Switzerland.
Switzerland declared in April 2024 that it intends to invest €5 billion over the next twelve years in Ukraine's economic development and long-term rebuilding.
