Details: The resident (head) of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) agent group operating in Zaporizhzhia received a life sentence. His accomplice was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
The Office of the Prosecutor General reports that since September 2022, the detainees have been leaking information to the FSB about the locations of critical infrastructure and Ukraine's military industry facilities, the deployment and movement of units of the Ukrainian defence forces and their military equipment, and the aftermath of a missile attack by the Russian military on the city's infrastructure.
To fulfil the Russian tasks, using the coordinates received from their curator, they conducted reconnaissance in the area of Zaporizhzhia and its suburbs to identify places for future caches of enemy weapons. These hiding places were planned to be used in the preparation and carrying out of terror attacks.
The SSU reports that in the spring of 2023, the detainees prepared a number of terrorist attacks against the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the SSU’s special forces who were performing combat missions on the southern front.
The convicts transmitted information to the Russian special service via a messenger app, deleting the messages after that.
SSU counter-intelligence officers detained the convicts during a special operation in Zaporizhzhia in early May 2023.
The materials of the criminal proceedings confirmed that the Russians used the intelligence from this agent group during the missile attack on Zaporizhzhia, which resulted in the deaths of a lot of people.
Following a public prosecution by prosecutors of the Zaporizhzhia Oblast Prosecutor's Office, two Ukrainian citizens were found guilty of treason (Art. 28.2, Art. 111.2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The court sentenced one of them to life imprisonment and the other to 15 years behind bars with confiscation of property.
The defendants will be kept in custody until the verdict takes effect.
