US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has said that America is "stuck" in the war in Ukraine and will only be able to "get out of there" if he wins the election.

Details: The former US president once again promised to "settle the war in Ukraine" and "end the chaos in the Middle East" if he wins, as the world is "very close to World War III".

"Biden and Kamala got us into this war in Ukraine, and now they can't get us out. They can't get us out. I watched him: ‘We will win, we will…’ He's been saying that for three years," Trump added.

He also repeated his description of Volodymyr Zelenskyy as the "greatest salesman on Earth", claiming that "every time Zelenskyy comes to the United States he walks away with a hundred billion".

"But we're stuck in that war unless I'm president. I’ll get it done. I’ll get it negotiated. I’ll get out. We gotta get out," Trump insisted.

He went on to outline a scenario in which Russia could win the war against Ukraine, citing an assertion made by "somebody" he had spoken to the other day as evidence: "They [the Russians] beat Hitler, they beat Napoleon. That's what they do. They fight, and it's not pleasant."

After that, Trump reiterated the repeatedly refuted claim that the US has given Ukraine "close to $300 billion" while Europe has given "a small fraction of that number", and accused Biden of not even trying to change the situation.

"Do you think Biden lies awake at night, thinking how we gonna get Europe to pay? No, he goes to sleep!" Trump concluded.

Background:

  • Trump has repeatedly stated that he knows how to end the war in Ukraine. In a debate with Vice President Kamala Harris, he dodged the question of whether he wanted Ukraine to win the war, repeating only that he "wants to end the war" and claiming that the real human cost of the war was in the millions.
  • Harris, in turn, said that if Trump had been president in recent years instead of Joe Biden, it would have been a disaster for Ukraine and Eastern Europe.
