Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has stressed that Ukraine should be allowed to launch strikes on targets deep into Russia, despite Moscow's threats that it would draw the North Atlantic Alliance into a direct war with Russia.

Details: At a press conference in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, in the Canadian province of Quebec, Trudeau stated that Canada "fully supports Ukraine using long-range weaponry" that will prevent Russian strikes on hospitals and kindergartens.

"[Putin – ed.] is trying to deeply destabilise the international rules-based order that protects us all, not just in every democracy around the world, but in all countries around the world," Trudeau added.

The Canadian prime minister stressed that Ukraine must win the war against Russia, otherwise it would encourage other large nations to attempt to seize their neighbours.

  • Trudeau's statement came after Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin claimed that allowing Ukraine to use Western-supplied missiles to strike Russia would mean that NATO and European countries would be directly involved in the war in Ukraine.
  • UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer responded to Putin's intimidation by saying that it was the Russian leader who started the war in Ukraine and that he could end it at any time.
  • The EU also said that Putin's threats would not change the EU's stance on supporting Ukraine.
