Pentagon calls Russian counterattacks in Kursk Oblast "marginal"

The US Department of Defense has assessed the counter-offensive actions of Russian troops in Kursk Oblast, Russia, calling them "marginal".

Quote: "So, you know, what we have seen is Russian units beginning to try to conduct some type of counteroffensive in the Kursk region." 

Details: He said that these actions are "marginal". However, Ryder added that the Pentagon is monitoring the developments. 

Previously: President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that Russian troops have launched a counteroffensive in Kursk Oblast.

Background:

• The operation in Kursk Oblast began on 6 August. On 10 August, on the fifth day of the Ukrainian army's offensive deep into Russia, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy acknowledged that Ukraine had brought the war to Russian territory.
• On 27 August, Oleksandr Syrskyi, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said that since the beginning of the operation in Kursk Oblast, Ukraine had captured 594 Russian soldiers and controlled more than 100 settlements or 1,294 sq km of territory. 
• President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that such actions were aimed at creating a buffer zone to prevent Russian military operations against Ukraine.
• Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin persistently diminishes the success of the Ukrainian operation in Kursk Oblast, trying his best to convince Russian society that control by the Ukrainian Armed Forces over a hundred settlements in Russia means nothing. However, on 5 September, he said that Russian soldiers' "sacred duty" is to win back the part of Russiaʼs Kursk Oblast currently controlled by the Ukrainian military.
