The away team's goalkeeper had to get the ball out of the net after Dynamo’s Vladyslav Vanat scored in the 18th minute, but the referee ruled the forward offside. However, this did not shake the Blue and Whites’ will to win.

Andrii Yarmolenko scored the first goal at the end of the first half, heading the ball into the net after a shot from Vanat. So the Kyiv team went into the second half with a one-goal lead.

Cyriel Dessers headed the ball into the far corner after a cross from the left flank, but Dynamo's goalkeeper Heorhii Bushchan made a spectacular save, getting the ball out of the bottom corner.

Dynamo, runners-up in the Ukrainian Premier League, were heading for victory until Rangers equalised in the last minute of extra time with a goal from Dessers.

A return match will take place on 13 August at Hampden Park in Glasgow. Kick-off is at 21:45 Kyiv time.

Earlier, Dynamo Kyiv knocked Partizan Belgrade FC out of the tournament in the second qualifying round of the Champions League.
