Details: Brekelmans stressed that Ukraine "is in dire need of our help in the fight against the Russian aggressor".
"At present, the Netherlands is supplying 28 Viking tracked vehicles [to Ukraine]. The [Dutch] Marine Corps has trained the Ukrainian military for this purpose. Our support for Ukraine continues to keep Russia at bay," he added.
The Viking Bandvagn S10 is an armoured amphibious all-terrain vehicle consisting of two parts connected to each other. Weighing about 11 tonnes, the vehicles can move through water at the speed of a pedestrian.
There are dozens of these all-terrain vehicles in service in the Netherlands, and in 2021, it was decided to replace them with more modern models.
Brekelmans did not indicate whether the first Viking Bandvagn S10s had arrived in Ukraine or if any additional supplies were planned. This batch of military assistance to Ukraine had not been previously reported.
Background: Earlier, it was reported that the Netherlands would supply Ukraine with a radar and three launchers for a Patriot air defence missile system, as well as 51 mobile radars capable of detecting drones.
