Details: The Polish Prosecutor's Office confirmed that a European Arrest Warrant (EAW) was obtained from Germany in this case. However, the Polish services did not find the suspect, known only as Volodymyr, at his likely place of residence.
"The man crossed the Polish-Ukrainian border at the beginning of July," Adamiak said.
She added that Germany had issued a warrant for the diver's arrest, but he was not in the database of wanted persons used by the Border Service, which means that Germany did not enter his data there. As a result, he was not detained by Polish border guards.
Earlier, the German media outlet Spiegel reported that the Ukrainian, whom Germany had intended to arrest in Poland for his involvement in the blast at the Nord Stream gas pipeline, had left Polish territory, probably because he had been warned about the impending arrest.
Several German media outlets, including ARD, Süddeutsche Zeitung (SZ) and Die Zeit, reported on Wednesday that Attorney General Jens Rommel issued the first arrest warrant for the main suspect, a Ukrainian diving instructor named Volodymyr, in early June.
Germany’s Federal Public Prosecutor's Office has made no comment on media reports regarding the issuance of the arrest warrant for the Ukrainian citizen in connection with the damage done to the Nord Stream pipeline.
