Details: During an informal meeting with Putin, Modi reportedly made a direct appeal to him to end the war in Ukraine. The PM told Putin that a solution cannot be found on the battlefield.
"India has always called for respecting the UN Charter, including territorial integrity and sovereignty. There is no solution on the battlefield. Dialogue and diplomacy is the way forward," Prime Minister Modi reportedly told Putin during the dinner.
Modi is on a two-day official visit to Russia. This is his first visit since the country launched its full-scale war against Ukraine.
India has shied away from openly condemning Russia and abstained from voting on United Nations resolutions condemning Moscow.
