Rubble cleared at Okhmatdyt, a total of 32 people killed in Russian 8 July attacks on Kyiv – photos

Search and rescue operations at the Okhmatdyt National Specialised Children’s Hospital in Kyiv have been completed: two people were killed and 32 injured as a result of the Russian attack on 8 July. In total, 32 people were killed in Kyiv at several different strike sites.

Quote from Klymenko: "As of now, 29 people, including four children, have been killed in Kyiv as a result of the Russian strikes on 8 July, and 117 people were injured, including 10 children."

Details: Klymenko said that eight children from Okhmatdyt had been taken to hospital with their injuries.

Update: Later, Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klitschko reported that a body of another woman had been recovered from under the rubble of a house in the Shevchenkivskyi district of Kyiv, bringing the total number of people killed in this building to 11, and the total number killed in Kyiv in the Russian attack on 8 July to 30. 

Later, Serhii Popko, Head of Kyiv City Military Administration, reported that as of 12:15, 31 people were killed and 117 were injured in Kyiv in the Russian attack. 

At 13:00, Ukraine’s State Emergency Service said that another body had been recovered from the debris. A total of 12 people have been found dead at the site of this strike, and 32 people were killed in Russian attacks across Kyiv.

Vitalii Klitschko said that 94 children from the Okhmatdyt children’s hospital were transferred to other medical institutions. Eight of these children are injured.

Moreover, as of the morning of 9 July, 57 adults are in the inpatient units of municipal medical institutions. Five of them are in serious condition. 

Background:

  • On 8 July, the Russians launched a missile attack on Ukraine. They hit the Okhmatdyt hospital, the ADONIS private clinic and residential buildings in Kyiv.
  • Two adults, one of them a doctor, were killed in the attack on Okhmatdyt.
  • An entire section of a building in the Shevchenkivskyi district of Kyiv was destroyed as a result of the strike. As of the afternoon of 8 July, seven people, including three children, were reported killed. Two more people were killed at an industrial facility in Shevchenkivskyi district.
  • The Domino business centre was damaged in the Solomianskyi district of Kyiv, killing seven people.
  • A four-storey building belonging to the ADONIS clinic was partially destroyed in the Dniprovskyi district of Kyiv, killing nine people.   
  • As of the evening of 8 July, it was reported that a total of 37 people had been killed and 170 wounded as a result of the Russian strike on Ukraine on 8 July.
