A kamikaze drone hit the Tambov Gunpowder Plant in the city of Kotovsk, Tambov Oblast, Russia, as a result of a special operation by Ukraine’s Defence Intelligence on the morning of 4 July.

The Russian authorities deny that the gunpowder plant was hit. Maksim Yegorov, the head of Tambov Oblast, said: "Both UAVs were shot down. There are no casualties or damage. The situation is under control."
However, local residents have been sharing videos online that clearly show a strike by one of the kamikaze drones, followed by an explosion and flames at the site.

Background:
- Defence Intelligence has attacked the Tambov Gunpowder Plant before, on the night of 18-19 January 2024.
- On that occasion, one of the kamikaze drones exploded at the site near the powder mixing workshop. Drones also attacked the plant in November 2023.
- UP's source pointed out that the Tambov Gunpowder Plant is one of the largest enterprises in Russia that produces ammunition and powder for small arms. Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the plant has increased production by a third. The business has been sanctioned since March 2023.
