Details: Reportedly, Meloni and Xi "discussed the positive development of relations between Italy and China" and stressed the importance of "balanced, mutually beneficial cooperation based on reciprocal trust".
The negotiations touched on the bilateral relations between Italy and China and priority issues of the international agenda "from the war in Ukraine to the risks of a further escalation of the situation in the Middle East", Meloni’s press service added.
At the meeting Meloni stated that tension was growing in the world, and "China is inevitably a very important side in the discussion on how to deal with all these events". She urged both countries to jointly discuss "how to facilitate stability and peace".
Meloni noted that Italy might play an important role in the relations between China and the EU "by trying to facilitate as well-balanced trade relations as possible".
On 27 July, Meloni started a four-day visit to China, the first one since she became the Prime Minister of Italy. Nonetheless, she has already met with Xi Jinping in November 2022 at the G20 Summit in Indonesia.
