Ukrainian fencer Olha Kharlan reaches Olympic quarter-finals, defeating Azerbaijani opponent who previously represented Russia
Ukrainian fencer Olha Kharlan has competed in her second match in the individual sabre tournament at the 2024 Olympic Games.

Details: Kharlan, 32, inflicted a crushing defeat on Azerbaijan's Anna Bashta in the round of 16 with a score of 15-6.
It is worth noting that Anna Bashta represented Russia, her country of birth, until 2019. She switched her sport nationality five years ago.
Harlan will compete against 29-year-old Hungarian Anna Marton in the quarter-finals. The match is scheduled for 29 July at 16:55 Kyiv time.
Olha Kharlan won an Olympic gold medal in Beijing 2008 (team event) and bronze medals in London 2012 and Rio 2016 (individual events). She also holds a silver medal from the team tournament in Rio 2016.
Background: Kharlan's teammates Olena Kravatska and Alina Komashchuk were defeated in the round of 32 and are no longer contenders for individual medals in Paris.
