Ukrainian fencer Kharlan kicks off with victory over Japanese fencer at 2024 Olympics

Ukrainian sabre fencer Olga Kharlan began her campaign in the individual sabre tournament at the 2024 Olympic Games.

Details: In the round of 16, 32-year-old Kharlan secured a victory over Japan’s Shihomi Fukushima, winning 15-9.

Kharlan's opponent in the quarter finals will be determined later. The Ukrainian is an Olympic champion from Beijing 2008, as well as a bronze medalist from London 2012 and Rio 2016.
Earlier, another Ukrainian sabre fencer, Olena Kravatska, started with a victory at the Paris Olympics.
