Photo of former Ukrainian MP Iryna Farion's "alleged murderer" circulates online

The Center for Countering Disinformation (CCD) at the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine urges people not to believe the fake information about the supposed murderer of professor and linguist Iryna Farion, which is being circulated online.

Quote: "A photo of the alleged murderer of professor and linguist Iryna Farion is being circulated online, with the suspect purported to be a 21-year-old resident of Lviv Oblast.

Having checked this information with the National Police of Ukraine, the Center announces that it is untrue.

The citizen depicted in the photo being circulated online has no relation to this crime. Trust only verified sources of information!"

Background:

• On the evening of 19 July, an attempt was made on the life of former MP Iryna Farion on Masaryk Street in Lviv.
• Farion later died in hospital.
• On the morning of 20 July, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that he had received new reports regarding the murder of Iryna Farion and that all lines of enquiry were being investigated, including the one leading to Russia.
• Farion's funeral will be held on Sunday, and she will be buried in Lviv.
