Details: Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, attended an emergency Cabinet meeting on 19 July.
The members of the UK government greeted Zelenskyy with a standing ovation. He became the first foreign leader to address the Cabinet in person since 1997.
Starmer called Zelenskyy’s visit to Downing Street "a real piece of history".
"This is a very, very important meeting for us and you’re very welcome here. It is a real pleasure and a privilege to be able to welcome you to Downing Street this morning. This is a real piece of history," he said.
Starmer said Ukraine had the UK’s "unshakeable support" and that Russia’s aggression was "unforgivable and cannot go unpunished".
He said the UK would "double down" on backing Ukraine and confirmed he had accepted this morning an invitation to visit Ukraine again in the future.
