Details: It is noted that from 8 to 9 July, experts from Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise worked on the territory of the Okhmatdyt National Children's Specialised Hospital of Ukraine's Ministry of Health to quickly identify the weapons used by the Russians.
More than 30 missile parts and fragments were identified, including:
- a part of the rotation drive with fragments of the rocket's wing console spar;
- fragments of the tail section with parts of aerodynamic rudders;
- a fragment of the engine;
- fragments of the engine's outer skin with parts of the engine's serial number and production number.
Based on the video of the missile hitting the Okhmatdyt Children's Hospital available to the experts of Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise, the investigators made an approximate calculation of the size of the cruise missile – 7.5 metres.
Quote from Andrii Haichenko, Deputy Minister of Justice: "The specific engineering and design features of the found wreckage and the corresponding standard markings indicate that the Russian armed forces used a Kh-101 strategic air-launched cruise missile. Its length is 7.5 m, the warhead weighs about 400 kg, the maximum speed is 720 km/h, and the range is up to 5000 km."
Background:
- The Russians launched a strike on the Okhmatdyt National Children's Specialised Hospital in Kyiv on 8 July. One of the buildings was destroyed. The Kyiv authorities reported that two adults had been killed and 32 injured.
- The Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) has defined Russia's attack on the Okhmatdyt National Children's Specialised Hospital in Kyiv as a war crime and initiated criminal proceedings into the matter. Early reports from SSU investigators indicate the Russians used a Kh-101 air-launched cruise missile to attack the medical facility.
- The Ukrainian Air Force has also clearly refuted the possibility that a Ukrainian air defence missile could have hit the Okhmatdyt hospital. The evidence is a screenshot of a video and a photo of a Kh-101 missile, as well as a photo of an AIM-120 missile, the kind of projectile that NASAMS surface-to-air missile systems use.
- Bellingcat analysts, as well as a number of independent nuclear weapons and missile technology experts, concluded that the attack on Kyiv's Okhmatdyt hospital involved the use of a Russian Kh-101 missile.
