Local authorities clarify death toll from Russian strike on Kyiv: 33, not 34

The death toll from the Russian missile strike on the city of Kyiv on 8 July has risen to 34. After additional expertise, the Kyiv City Military Administration clarified that 33 people, not 34 as previously stated, were killed as a result of the Russian missile strike on Kyiv on 8 July.

Details: Later, the Kyiv City Military Administration clarified the information regarding the number of casualties.

"In particular, two people were killed at Ohmatdyt Hospital; 14 people, including five children, were killed in a residential building on Volodymyra Salskoho Street; seven people were killed at the Dominion business centre; nine people were killed at the Adonis Clinic. Two people were killed near the Lukianivska metro station," the Kyiv City Military Administration reported.

Update: Pavlo Petrov, a spokesperson for the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, in a comment to Ukrainska Pravda stated that he has no information regarding 34 fatalities. The State Emergency Service said 33 people, including five children, were killed during the missile strike on 8 July, and 121 people were injured.

Earlier, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported that emergency rescue and recovery operations in Kyiv have been completed.

Update: At 13:11, Serhii Popko, Head of Kyiv City Military Administration, corrected his information regarding the increase in the number of fatalities to 34 people.

Quote from Popko: "After conducting additional expertise, the number of fatalities from the missile strike on 8 July 2024, in Kyiv has been clarified. 33 people died, not 34 as previously reported in the initial reports."

Background:

  • On 8 July, the Russians launched a missile attack on Ukraine. They hit the Okhmatdyt hospital, the ADONIS private clinic and residential buildings in Kyiv.
  • Two adults, one of them a doctor, were killed in the attack on Okhmatdyt.
  • An entire section of a building in the Shevchenkivskyi district of Kyiv was destroyed as a result of the strike, killing 13 people Two more people were killed at an industrial facility in Shevchenkivskyi district.
  • The Domino business centre was damaged in the Solomianskyi district of Kyiv, killing seven people.
  • A four-storey building belonging to the ADONIS clinic was partially destroyed in the Dniprovskyi district of Kyiv, and nine people were killed.
  • Emergency rescue and recovery operations in Kyiv following the Russian strike on 8 July were completed as of the morning of 10 July.
