Macron says preparation for training of Ukrainian troops on Mirage 2000 jets will begin "in next few days"

French President Emmanuel Macron said preparations for training Ukrainian pilots and mechanics for Mirage 2000-5 fighters will begin "in the next few days".

Details: Macron refused to specify the number of Mirage 2000-5 jets to be supplied to Ukraine and which countries are contemplating their provision, saying: "I think you can understand why."

"We agreed on the requirements; now the objective is to begin training pilots and mechanics, as this is what will be launched literally in the next few days in France. We are discussing technical training that will take place on our land," he stated.

The French president further stated that after that, Paris will specify what it can send to Ukraine, and that necessary negotiations "have already begun several months ago with several of our partners".

"I can't say much more. We've always tried to report numbers only when they're already being transported and used. This is more effective; it prevents our adversaries from taking advantage of [the information]," Macron concluded.

French President Emmanuel Macron announced the transfer of several French Mirage 2000-5 fighter jets to Ukraine and the training of additional Ukrainian military personnel as part of a new cooperation with Kyiv.

On 7 June in Paris, Ukrainian and French presidents Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Emmanuel Macron signed agreements to provide help for the repair of essential Ukrainian infrastructure.
