The new procedure for applying rolling blackout schedules, which will start operating in Ukraine in a test mode beginning Saturday, 8 June, should ensure shorter power cuts.

Details: "A new procedure for applying rolling blackout schedules will be introduced in a test mode effective Saturday, setting limits regarding how much [the power grid is to be] unloaded in a particular oblast.

In this regard, distribution network operators must organise outage queues to utilise this limit exclusively.

We expect that the number of queues should be less, and people's homes should have electricity for more hours," Vlasenko said during the Hour of Questions to the Government in the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian parliament) on Friday.

  • Due to the large concentration of critical infrastructure that takes up part of electricity consumption, some of Kyiv's districts have no power for about 20 hours.
  • Every day, Ukrenergo, a Ukrainian national power company, informs local distribution network operators of the consumption limit, part of which is immediately allocated to critical infrastructure, while the rest is distributed among consumers.
