The US has been providing weapons to Ukraine so that it can defend its own territory, including the Crimean peninsula. In contrast, Russia could stop the suffering of civilians right now if it ends its aggression.

Details: Miller noted that any civilian casualties during the war are tragic.

He emphasised that Russia could end the suffering caused by the war now if it stops the occupation of sovereign Ukrainian territory and attacks on civilians.

  • On 23 June, the Russian occupation authorities of Crimea and the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation claimed there had been a Ukrainian attack on Sevastopol which had killed five people, including three children, and injured over 120 others.
  • The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned US Ambassador Lynne Tracy on 24 June in connection with a missile strike on Crimea last weekend. The Russian authorities claimed that a US-supplied ATACMS missile with a cluster warhead had hit Sevastopol. The Ministry said the missile went off course due to interception by the air defence system and its wreckage fell, including on the beaches.
