Gender-reveal party right after marriage: Ukrainian soldier gets married near front lines – photos
Serving soldier Yaroslav married his beloved Oksana just a few dozen kilometres away from the contact line. The couple are also expecting a baby boy.
After the wedding, they hosted a gender reveal party, the Oleksa Dovbush 68th Jaeger Brigade reported on social media.
Yaroslav, an anti-aircraft missile system operator, told Ukrainska Pravda.Zhyttia he met his future wife six or seven years ago, just before joining the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
He confesses that his first impression wasn’t great, but that didn’t stop them from developing a strong relationship.
"We met at a New Year celebration with friends. Then it was one thing after another. We went out for coffee, went on a walk together, and it all began.
We've been planning to get married for a long time, but I'm often on the road and have rarely been home. We kept thinking my [military] contract would expire soon," Yaroslav adds.
Yaroslav says his military service was due to end on 24 February 2022, the day of Russia’s full-scale invasion – he just had to put the final stamp on the documents at the military unit. But he chose not to leave the Armed Forces.
The soldier said the wedding ceremony was held near the front lines because it was not possible to leave the positions for an extended period of time. However, several of the defender's brothers-in-arms, including Senior Sergeant Oleksandr, were able to attend the celebration.
"A lot of people are at the positions, everyone’s busy, so there wasn’t much of an opportunity for many people to get together," Yaroslav explains.
His friend Oleksandr, who also married his girlfriend a month ago, promised to photograph the couple's special moments right after their wedding.
Yaroslav and Oksana also found out the gender of their unborn baby on the same day: they’re expecting a son. The newlyweds are now considering names for their firstborn.
The couple intend to go on honeymoon after Ukraine’s victory.
In early June, a former soldier named Oleksii proposed to his beloved Anastasia. The couple met in a clinic while recovering from amputation; each of them had lost a limb while serving in the Armed Forces.
