Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda has stressed that Russia's war against Ukraine should end in a just peace with respect for Ukraine's territorial integrity, and that "peace plans" that provide for concessions to the aggressor cannot be considered an alternative.

Details: "Our common responsibility is to show full solidarity with Ukraine... Peace in Ukraine is possible only through the total return of Ukraine's territorial integrity," Gitanas Nausėda said.

He stressed that Russia must end the war and unconditionally withdraw its troops from Ukraine, and the international community must ensure accountability for Russian war crimes and the crime of aggression, in particular through the establishment of a special tribunal.

"Calls for Ukraine to surrender, to compromise on issues of sovereignty and territorial integrity, to accept Russian ultimatums will only serve to appease Russia and invite it to continue wars. Such support for the aggressor can hardly be called ‘alternative peace plans’," said Gitanas Nausėda.

The Lithuanian president added that the international community should think about how to ensure a truly reliable and sustainable peace after the current hot phase of the war is over.

"We all have to agree on a mechanism to deter Russia from new aggression in the future," Nausėda said.
