"Under the conditions of Russian air terror, urgent solutions for Ukrainian energy will be our main priority," he added.

Zelenskyy plans to discuss further defence support, the development of Ukraine's air defence system, and joint arms production with Scholz. The parties will also coordinate their positions ahead of the Peace Summit, the European Council Summit, and the NATO Summit.

In addition, Zelenskyy will meet with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Bundestag President Bärbel Bas, and visit a military base where Ukrainian soldiers are training.

Background

  • The Ukraine Recovery Conference in Berlin will begin on 11 June and will be the third such event, following the first conference in 2022 in Lugano, Switzerland, and the second in London.
  • Media outlets previously reported that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will personally attend the event and is also set to address the German Bundestag for the first time.
  • On 10 June, Mustafa Nayyem wrote a letter of resignation from his position as head of Ukraine’s State Agency for Restoration and Infrastructure Development. The government stated that Nayyem was not allowed to go on a business trip to the conference in Berlin, allegedly because a government meeting with the participation of the Recovery Agency was supposed to take place on the same date. However, according to Nayyem, he did not receive an official invitation and only learned about the meeting after being refused.
  • The German government believes that the absence of Mustafa Nayyem at the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Berlin should not harm the event.
