In its report, the US Defense Intelligence Agency has identified evidence that Russia had used North Korean ballistic missiles to hit Ukraine.

Details: US intelligence reached this conclusion by comparing photographs of missile wreckage discovered in Kharkiv during the Russian strikes on 2 January with images of missiles in North Korean state media in 2023.

Among other things, analysts from the US Defense Intelligence Agency discovered similarities between the portions of the front engine, aft engine, cable tray, and ring connections in the images of missile wreckage in Kharkiv and missiles at the Pyongyang factory.

Last month, UN experts said that the missile debris found in Kharkiv, Ukraine, on 2 January 2024, comes from a DPRK Hwasong-11 series missile and constitutes a violation of the arms embargo to and from North Korea.

Russia and North Korea have strengthened their military cooperation over the past year. Moscow is believed to have received North Korean ballistic missiles and ammo, and in response, Pyongyang was promised its own satellite and missile technologies.

The US is concerned that the "strong embrace" between the Russian Federation and North Korea will force DPRK leader Kim Jong-un to risk threats to South Korea, arms exports, and rejecting pleas for nuclear talks.
