According to Militarny, the Russians expect the hangars to defend aircraft from strike drones and ATACMS ballistic missile submunitions.

Furthermore, hangars prevent satellites and other optical detection systems from determining whether the hangar is empty or holds aircraft.

The materials used to construct the hangars are unknown, however based on their look, they will most likely have poor debris protection.
