Ukrainian media participating in national joint newscast receive status of critical during wartime: deferral for staff confirmed

The Ministry of Culture of Ukraine has confirmed the status of TV and radio channels participating in the 24/7 national joint newscast as critical to the functioning of the economy and the quality of life of Ukrainian citizens during the special period (i.e. the wartime).

Details: The Ministry of Culture has confirmed the status of enterprises, institutions and organisations of LLC We-Ukraine (We-Ukraine TV channel), LLC Studio 1+1 (1+1 TV channel) as critical for the functioning of the economy and meeting the urgent needs of the population during the special period. The list also includes MK TRK LLC (ICTV TV channel); Inter TV Channel PJSC (Inter TV channel); State Enterprise Parliamentary TV Channel Rada (Rada TV channel) and Joint Stock Company National Public Broadcasting Company of Ukraine (Suspilne.Novyny TV channel).

In addition, since 2024, this status has been granted and confirmed to the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), the Ukrainian National News Agency Ukrinform, Novy Kanal LLC, Starlight Media LLC, STB TV Channel LLC, Khmarochos Media LLC, UNIAN TV LLC, Deutsche Welle, TET TV Channel and NBM TV Company.

In addition, the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine and a number of other companies, institutions and organisations within the area of competence of the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy received the status of critically important during the special period.

Interfax-Ukraine added that as of February 2024, there were 143 companies, institutions and organisations in the field of culture and information policy in Ukraine that are critical to the functioning of the economy and the livelihoods of the population during the special period.

Background: On 30 January, the Cabinet of Ministers published a new procedure for reserving persons liable for military service, which provides for a deferral of mobilisation for 50% or more of civil servants and employees of companies critically important to the state. Persons liable for military service are granted a deferral from being called up for military service during mobilisation.
