UK and Ukraine's foreign ministers discuss steps to find more Patriot air defence systems for Ukraine

Ukraine's Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba has discussed with his British counterpart David Cameron the strengthening of assistance for Kyiv with air defence systems, including Patriot systems.

Details: Kuleba said, following their discussions at NATO headquarters last week, that they coordinated further steps to find and transfer additional air defence systems to Ukraine, primarily Patriot.

Background:

  • Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy again called on Ukraine's partners to increase assistance with air defence equipment, including Patriot systems.
  • Strengthening Ukraine's air defence was one of the key topics of conversations that Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba had during his trip to the NATO ministerial meeting in Brussels last week. 
  • As the NATO secretary general said on Thursday, some NATO allies have already pledged to look for air defence systems for Ukraine.
  • The US Secretary of State took immediate action after Ukraine's request for additional Patriots.
