Shmyhal said Kharkiv, Dnipro and Zaporizhzhia oblasts would receive the most funds.
A total of UAH 2.5 billion hryvnias (about US$63.4 million) has been allocated for the construction of shelters in schools.
The focus is on frontline and border oblasts.
Quote: "The priority goal of the Ministry of Education is to restore access to full-time learning in the areas where the security situation allows it. A basic need is bomb shelters in schools," Oksen Lisovyi, Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, stated.
Separately, UAH 150 million (US$3.8 million) will be allocated to finish the construction of bomb shelters that was started in 2023. However, there is a condition - they must be fully funded and at least 40% completed.
Background: Ukraine has changed the mechanism by which funding is allocated for the construction of shelters in schools. From now on, funds will be distributed to districts using a points system via the DREAM platform.
