Former Commander-in-Chief and former General Staff Chief were released from military duty together, sources say

General Valerii Zaluzhnyi, former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and Lieutenant General Serhii Shaptala, former Chief of the General Staff, have been released from military duty for health reasons.

Details: Independent sources within the Defence Ministry say that Zaluzhnyi and Shaptala have been discharged based on the conclusion of a military medical board declaring them unfit for military service and have been removed from the military register.

Background:
- On 7 March, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy approved the appointment of Zaluzhnyi as Ambassador of Ukraine to the United Kingdom.
- Later, media reported that Zaluzhnyi underwent a military medical examination in the winter, before his appointment as ambassador to the United Kingdom, where he was found to be unfit for military service.
