US warns of extremists' imminent plans to attack Moscow

The US Embassy in Russia has warned that extremists have "imminent plans" to attack Moscow.

Quote: "The Embassy is monitoring reports that extremists have imminent plans to target large gatherings in Moscow, to include concerts, and U.S. citizens should be advised to avoid large gatherings over the next 48 hours."

Details: The embassy issued its warning several hours after the Federal Security Service of Russia (FSB) announced that it had thwarted an attack on a synagogue in Moscow by a cell of the militant Sunni Muslim group Islamic State.

Most Western countries advise against any travel to Russia and urge their citizens to leave. The US declared the highest level of warning for Russia – red, "do not travel". Countries like Afghanistan, Syria, Yemen, South Sudan and Iran have the same level of warning.
