Russia counts all ballots, Putin secures over 87% of votes in "election"

The Russian Central Election Commission reported that it has counted 100% of the ballots in the "presidential elections" of the Russian Federation, and that Vladimir Putin received 87.28% of the votes.

Details: The Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation reported that among other candidates, Nikolai Kharitonov received 4.31% of the votes, Vladislav Davankov – 3.85%, and Leonid Slutsky – 3.20%.

Background:

• Voting in the Russian presidential "elections" lasted for three days – from 15 to 17 March.
• It was reported that the Central Committee of the Russian Federation "predicted" a record victory for Putin.
• Several Eastern European countries and the UK have already stated that the Russian "elections" cannot be considered free and fair, and the UK Minister of Defence has compared Putin to the Soviet dictator Stalin.
• The European Union has criticised the "presidential elections" in Russia as being held with numerous restrictions, without the participation of any real opposition, and with voting in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.
