Congress knows Ukraine needs aid within a month – Zelenskyy

Ukraine has informed the US that its multi-billion-dollar aid package needs to be approved within a month; the US Congress is aware of this, and there is hope that it will be approved.

Quote: "We are relying on Congress. I hope the decision will be positive. If not, I don’t really understand what the world we live in is turning into… They know we need their support within a month. That’s what we’ve asked for."

Details: Zelenskyy added that he has met with senators from both parties, and both they and President Biden have got the message.  

"They are also aware of our request for air defence systems. We need more of them," Zelenskyy stated.

In this context, the president recalled the agreement on security guarantees currently in preparation.

"Very specific decisions are being made concerning the funding. We’ve insisted on this specificity because we are aware of the challenges the US faces. But I am counting on the US remaining the democratic leader of the world," he added.  

Zelenskyy also reported that he is optimistic about a possible supply of long-range weaponry, specifically ATACMS missiles, after recent talks with Ukraine’s Western partners.

According to an internal assessment by the US, Ukraine could face a potentially "catastrophic" shortage of ammunition and air defence systems by the spring.
