Details: Biden, addressing fellow Americans from the White House, stressed that the speaker of the lower house of Congress should bring a bill on supplemental funding for Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan "to the floor immediately".
Quote: "There's no question that if the Senate bill was brought to the House of Representatives, it would pass. And the Speaker knows that," the US president said.
"So I call on the Speaker to let the full House speak its mind and not allow a minority of the most extreme voices in the House to block this bill even from being voted on," he added.
Biden later noted that most of the funds allocated to support Ukraine in the package would be directed to the US defence industry and would create new jobs.
Previously, the US Senate finally approved a bill to allocate US$95 billion for national security.
The bill includes US$61 billion for Ukraine, US$14 billion for Israel in its war against Hamas, and US$4.83 billion to support partners in the Indo-Pacific region, including Taiwan, and to deter Chinese aggression.
Whether Republicans in the House of Representatives will agree to support the bill after it is approved in the Senate remains to be seen. In the meantime, House Speaker Mike Johnson has slammed its content.
