Quote: "Switzerland puts a special focus on reconstruction and recovery [of Ukraine]… As a political compass for reconstruction and recovery we have the Lugano principles… For the next period of our strategy for international cooperation from 2025 to 2028 Switzerland has earmarked 1.5 billion Swiss francs to support Ukraine."
Amherd and Zelenskyy have also discussed the issue of humanitarian demining in Ukraine and food trade safety amid restrictions on grain and foodstuff export by the Black Sea due to the Russian aggression.
"If in a big export-based economy like Ukraine fewer foodstuffs are harvested, this has an impact on the whole wide world. And against this backdrop, we also discussed the UN’s efforts to facilitate unhindered exports of food and fertiliser from Ukraine and Russia via the Black Sea," the Swiss President added.
She stressed that Russia’s decision not to continue the grain deal poses a threat for food trade worldwide.
Background:
- In December, the Federal Council of Switzerland announced the allocation of 11.8 million Swiss francs (€12.5 million – ed.) as aid for Ukrainians during the winter season.
