Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has said that there is another dimension in the relationship between Warsaw and Kyiv which includes Poland's interests, particularly those of Polish hauliers and farmers.

Details: "I will be expecting [understanding from Ukraine], and I will also be discussing this in Kyiv [during his upcoming visit] from the Ukrainian side to assist us in resolving all these pathological situations at the border so that our people do not have to resort to blocking [it] and striking," Tusk stated.

The prime minister emphasised that Poland wants to help Ukraine, but the Polish people should not have to suffer from the ongoing strike action, and Ukrainians still less, he added.

Tusk stated he would not allow anyone in his government to build their position on anti-Ukrainian sentiments.

He also noted that he plans to meet with President Andrzej Duda on Monday, 15 January to discuss, among other things, his upcoming visit to Kyiv.

An array of issues have built up in Kyiv and Warsaw's relationship in recent months, ranging from Poland's embargo on imports of Ukrainian agricultural products to Polish hauliers' blockade of the border.

Last week Dmytro Kuleba, Ukraine’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, announced talks with Poland "at all levels" to resolve contentious bilateral issues.
