Details: The US Department of the Treasury gave no detailed explanation as to why Mikheichik appeared on the sanctions list.
In addition, the restrictions were imposed on the Ashuluk training ground in Russia's Astrakhan Oblast, where Russian air defence forces train, and the Vladimirovka military and research facility, where combat aircraft are tested.
The United States also placed sanctions on two Il-76 military transport aircraft and one An-124.
In August 2023, the Security Service of Ukraine served a notice of suspicion on Vladimir Mikheichik for his involvement in the waging of an aggressive war against Ukraine. His 224th Flight Squadron was believed to have helped smuggle weapons and Wagner Group mercenaries from the Middle East to Ukraine.
Ukraine's National Agency on Corruption Prevention reported that Ukraine had introduced sanctions against Mikheichik in October 2022.
Last month, the US Treasury Department announced sanctions against more than 150 individuals and entities involved in Russia's evasion of restrictions and strengthening of its defence industry.
