Ukraine's ambassador in US comments on failed vote in Senate

The fact that the US Senate has not supported the decision to close debates concerning the international aid package bill does not rule out the possibility of reintroducing the bill for a vote in the near future.

Quote: "As we predicted, the Senate has not supported the decision to close the debate about the international aid bill. Today 51 senators (49 Republicans, one independent (B. Sanders) and one Democrat (leader of the Democrats Ch. Schumer who voted last when the result was already clear) voted against the decision to end debate on the international aid package bill announced the previous day, which included Ukraine, Israel, Taiwan and the states of the Indo-Pacific region."

Details: She stated that with 60 votes necessary to make a decision, 49 senators voted for starting work on the bill (including 47 Democrats and two independents).

Markarova stressed that this does not rule out the possibility of reintroducing the bill for voting in the near future. Republicans who had previously announced a negative vote concerning the international aid in advance, stated they could not support a bill that did not address the issue of the US southern border and changes to migration policy.

The ambassador stressed that Ukrainian diplomats were continuing to work actively and hoped that Congress will support the agreed package that includes defence, budget, humanitarian and energy assistance for Ukraine for 2024 before Christmas.
