In Zaporizhzhia, the death toll from a missile strike carried out by Russian forces on the morning of 29 December has increased to 9 people, and the city has declared 30 December to be a day of mourning. Also in mourning are Odesa and Dnipro.

Quote Kurtiev: "A day of mourning for those killed in yesterday's enemy missile strike has been declared in Zaporizhzhia. On 29 December, in our city, Ruscists brutally ended the lives of nine innocent civilians.

Details: In Odesa and Dnipro, 30 December has also been declared a day of mourning for those who died as a result of the missile attack carried out by the Russian Federation on 29 December. Six civilians lost their lives in Dnipro, and four in Odesa.

Background:

  • On the night of 28-29 December, Russia launched a large-scale attack on Ukraine. Kyiv, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Odesa, Lviv, Zaporizhzhia and other cities were hit. 
  • In total, out of the 158 air targets the Russians launched towards Ukraine, 114 were destroyed by air defence. The Russian Federation, according to the Air Force, employed nearly every kind of weaponry at its disposal.
  • As of 19:29, it was reported that the Russian massive strike on 29 December had resulted in approximately 30 deaths and over 160 injured, according to Ihor Klymenko, Ukraine's Minister of Internal Affairs.
  • ​​According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, 53 people were rescued by employees of the State Emergency Service, and 8 of those rescued were removed from under the rubble.
