Don't let Ukraine be destroyed: Biden hurries Congress on aid after furious Russian attack
Speaking about Russia’s large-scale attack on Ukraine on 29 December, US President Joe Biden has emphasised that Congress must act quickly to approve more aid for Kyiv.

Details: The American president stressed that the most recent Russian attack is "a stark reminder to the world that, after nearly two years of this devastating war, Putin’s objective remains unchanged. He seeks to obliterate Ukraine and subjugate its people."
"He [Putin - ed.] must be stopped," Biden insisted.
He mentioned the assistance provided by the US and its allies in bolstering Ukraine's air defence and shielding it from numerous missiles and drone strikes.
Quote: "But unless Congress takes urgent action in the new year, we will not be able to continue sending the weapons and vital air defence systems Ukraine needs to protect its people. Congress must step up and act without any further delay."
Details: Biden added that Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine affects the whole of NATO, the security of Europe, and the future of transatlantic relations.
"Putin has not just attempted to destroy Ukraine; he has threatened some of our NATO Allies as well. When dictators and autocrats are allowed to run roughshod in Europe, the risk rises that the United States gets pulled in directly," he said.
Background:
- On the night of 28-29 December, Russia launched a large-scale attack on Ukraine. Kyiv, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Odesa, Lviv, Zaporizhzhia and other cities were hit.
- As of 19:30, it was reported that the massive Russian strike on 29 December resulted in approximately 30 deaths and over 160 injured, according to Ihor Klymenko, Ukraine's Minister of Internal Affairs.
- The attack has been condemned by a number of European countries.
- On 29 December, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba held a telephone conversation with Josep Borrell, EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy, from the Foreign Ministry’s bomb shelter during the air-raid alert.
