5 times more armoured personnel carriers – Minister of Strategic Industries on armoured vehicle production
By the end of the year, Ukrainian factories had increased the production of domestic armoured personnel carriers five times compared to the spring of 2023.
Source: Oleksandr Kamyshin, Minister of Strategic Industries, at a press conference on 27 December
Details: Kamyshin said that the defence industry has increased the production of Ukrainian Bohdan self-propelled howitzers to six pieces per month and plans to increase this figure.
In addition, he announced for the first time that state-owned factories had increased the production of armoured personnel carriers fivefold. In 2023, state and private companies produced 3.4 times more armoured vehicles than in 2022.
Quote from Kamyshin: "Out of the projected 4.9% growth in our GDP, the share of the defence industry is 1.5%. We are proving that defence will be the engine of our restoration... We are not yet at the point where we can cover all our needs with our own production, but strategically, several Ukrainian companies, including private ones, will be able to meet all our needs for armoured vehicles.
We have also multiplied (more than two times – Ukrainska Pravda) the production of Ukrainian anti-tank systems, which have proven to be even better than their foreign analogues at the front."
Kamyshin also said that Ukraine has been mass-producing a long-range kamikaze drone similar to the Shahed since August 2023.
Background:
Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that about 300,000 workers are currently involved in the defence sector, so there are now significantly more Ukrainian-made weapons.
