Over 400 Ukrainian athletes killed in Russia's war of aggression

Vadym Huttsait, President of Ukraine's National Olympic Committee, has said over 400 Ukrainian athletes have been killed since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Quote: "Nowadays, we regularly hear from the other side (Russia) that they don't want to participate (in the Olympics) without their flag, that they won't participate, that it's not fair to them. Is it fair to us when a full-scale war is raging? And is it fair that over 400 of our athletes have already been killed, and we have lost about 500 sports facilities partially or completely? We are losing people... Is it fair to us?"

Details: Huttsait further noted that Russia used to participate in the Olympics with about 300-350 athletes. However, should they be allowed to participate in the Olympics under a neutral flag now, the number will be considerably smaller – 50-80 people.

There is no decision yet on whether Ukrainian athletes will take part in the Olympic Games in Paris. Ukraine's NOC chairman believes it is essential that Ukrainian athletes are represented at the Olympics.
