People completely evacuated from 19 settlements in Sumy Oblast
The population of 19 settlements in Sumy Oblast located within 5 km of the Russian border has been completely evacuated.

Details: The Sumy OMA specified that these 19 settlements are located in Nova Sloboda, Bilopillia, Krasnopillia, Shalyhyne and Esman hromadas [an administrative unit designating a village, several villages, or a town, and their adjacent territories – ed.].
In total, residents of settlements within a 5-km zone in 4 districts – 15 hromadas in Sumy Oblast – are subject to evacuation. The total number of people is 12,689, including 712 children.
The number of evacuated people who moved to other hromadas in Sumy Oblast stood at 3,679, including 679 children, as of early December 2023.
Background:
- On 10 July, Sumy Oblast Military Administration announced that the authorities would evacuate all residents of the 5-km zone in the Russian-bordering hromadas in Sumy Oblast.
- Volodymyr Artiukh, Head of Sumy OMA, explained that there would be no emergency or forced evacuation, adding that residents can refuse it.
- On 15 July, the free evacuation from Sumy Oblast was introduced.
