German tabloid says European intelligence thinks Russia might attack Europe next winter
A European intelligence service reportedly believes that Russia might make an attempt to attack Europe in the winter of 2024-25.
Source: Bild, a German tabloid, citing a source in a European intelligence service
Details: The intelligence service quoted in Bild believes that Russia might attack Europe when the US is "without a leader", causing a delay in the assistance it might be able to give to European countries.
By this, they mean the time after the November 2024 US presidential elections and before the newly elected president is inaugurated in January 2025.
The intelligence source told Bild that the Russian government is hoping that former president Donald Trump will get elected again; if that is the case, "anything can happen", the source said.
Background: Earlier, Boris Pistorius, German Defence Minister, said that the European defence industry needs time to build up its capabilities. "Now we have about five to eight years to catch up - in the armed forces, in industry and in society," Boris Pistorius said.
