Farmers blocking the border crossing in Poland's Medyka (on the Ukrainian side – the Shehyni checkpoint) will suspend their protest on 24 December.

Kondrów said the protest will be suspended from 08:00 on 24 December until 2 or 3 January 2024.

He noted that if he receives a written statement from Prime Minister Donald Tusk that their demands will be met, the protest will probably not be resumed.

Czesław Siekierski, the new Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of Poland, assured at a press conference that the requirements will be met, but it will take time. He added that funds for fulfilling some requirements are provided, in particular, in the state budget, which is currently under review.

It was also reported at the press conference that an agreement was signed in Medyka with farmers from Deceived Village, who are protesting near the border crossing in Dorohusk in the Lublin Voivodeship. The document contains such demands as the cessation of sugar imports from Ukraine and the immediate payment of direct subsidies.

  • Representatives of the Ministry of Infrastructure of Poland and the Ukrainian Ministry of Development of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure agreed on an action plan to unblock the border during a meeting in Kyiv on 22 December.
  • The Polish government supposed that the border could be unblocked before Christmas.
