In total, the EU has envisaged a €18 billion macro-financial support package for Ukraine through 2023. Together with today's tranche, these funds have been fully transferred to Kyiv.

Meanwhile, the approval of a €50 billion macro-financial assistance programme for the next four years was delayed due to Hungary's veto.

However, the European Commission stated that the funds to help Ukraine are available, and a "working decision" is needed to approve the programme.

Background: On 1 February 2024, the European Union will hold a special summit to discuss the allocation of €50 billion in additional aid to Ukraine.
