Background:

It was reported back in 2016 that Russia was deploying new space control systems in occupied Crimea. In particular, this was stated by Andrei Ivashina, Deputy Commander of the Space Forces of the Russian Aerospace Forces for Testing.

According to Ivashina, the main advantage of these systems over existing space control equipment is that they are built on a new component base.

"This makes it possible to increase their combat capabilities many times over the previous generations of systems. With the commissioning of the new systems, the Russian Aerospace Forces will be able to constantly monitor near-Earth space at all inclinations and in the maximum altitude range," Ivashina said.
