Russian President Vladimir Putin believes that the West tried to divide Russia into five parts.

Details: He said that immediately after the collapse of the USSR, the West "most actively began to work in Russia" and "stretch the formed independent states."

In addition, Putin in his speech recalled how Western countries "worked with the Russian fifth column, separatists and international terrorist organisations" in an attempt to "destroy" Russia.
