Ukraine's National Agency on Corruption Prevention temporarily removes Raiffeisen Bank from list of war sponsors
Ukraine’s National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP) has temporarily removed the Austrian Raiffeisen Bank from the list of companies that sponsor Russia’s war before consultations.
Source: This is evidenced by the status of the company on the NACP website.
Details: According to Reuters, the NACP removed the bank from the list in response to Austria's threat to thwart the implementation of new EU sanctions if Raiffeisen was still on the list. The withdrawal will proceed throughout the European Commission's bilateral consultations.
After the invasion, the Austrian bank pledged to exit the Russian market right away, but it has decided to not do so in 2023, and delayed the initial deadlines.
Background:
In contrast to earlier predictions, Johann Strobl, CEO of Raiffeisen Bank International (RBI), stated that it is unlikely that major bank operations in the Russian Federation can be separated by the end of the year.
The Centre Against Terrorism and Hybrid Threats of the Czech Republic is investigating the activities of the Austrian banking group Raiffeisenbank in the Russian Federation.
