Finland completely closes border with Russian again
The Vaalimaa and Niirala checkpoints on the Finnish-Russian border will officially be closed until 14 January.

Details: The Vaalimaa and Niirala checkpoints on the eastern Finnish-Russian border were closed at 20:00 on 15 December. This decision of the Finnish government will be valid until 14 January 2024.
Today, 230 asylum seekers without proper documents arrived in Finland from Russia.
The Finnish government decided to open two border checkpoints on the eastern border with Russia on 14 December: the Vaalimaa and Niirala motor-vehicle crossing points. Yet on the very first day, over 100 asylum seekers arrived from Russia, so the Finnish government closed the eastern border for another month.
According to a survey, the Finnish government’s steps concerning the border with Russia strengthened the feeling of national security of the Finnish people.
